What exactly is livestock finance?
It's specially designed funding to help farmers manage and grow their farm's livestock operations. The two most common finance options are loans and lease agreements. It allows farmers to buy more animals (dairy cows, ewes, etc.), upgrade facilities such as cow sheds, or invest in new ways to keep animals healthy.
What types of finance are available?
There are two main types:
- Traditional loans - These can be secured or unsecured livestock loans, depending on the type of business, for purchasing livestock outright
- Lease arrangements - Let farmers use livestock for an agreed term without needing to buy the animals up front
Can I use the loans to modernise my farm?
Yes, we often find that farmers want to increase the productivity of their animals by investing in their farm facilities. Aside from buying more animals, they will use the funds to invest in:
- Modern feeding systems
